HELP YOUR WEDDING FLORIST TO HELP YOU

As I mentioned in Part 1 of 'Choosing Your Wedding flowers In 2019', some people believe it's a good thing to have an idea of your wedding dress before speaking to a florist about your wedding bouquet.

Your florist will definitely be better equipped to help you to find the ideal flowers to compliment your overall look.

THINGS YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF

  • You don't want your bridal bouquet to be so big that it takes the attention away from you.

  • You only need your bouquet to enhance your overall look on your wedding day.

  • If you have a dress that accentuates your figure, don't allow your flowers to hide it. especially when you invested so much time and effort into searching for the perfect gown.

  • Ensure the stems / handle of your bouquet is comfortable to hold. The last thing you need is for; your bouquet to be too heavy, the handle too long or too short,or the stems / handle to be too wide and difficult to carry.

GIVE YOUR FLORIST AN IDEA OF THE KIND OF WEDDING

YOU ARE PLANNING

This will save you wasting valuable time during your quest to find the perfect bouquet shape and flowers.

WHAT TYPE OF WEDDING BOUQUET WOULD YOU LIKE?

VINTAGE

If you would like to have a vintage style wedding, then it may be suggested that you include flowers such as; Scented stock, Peonies, David Austin roses, and other large garden roses in your bouquet.

RUSTIC

Expect a rustic bouquet to have ample amounts of foliage randomly placed in your bouquet, which will probably be allowed to fall naturally in arched shapes, paired with some pretty pale pink roses.

Don't expect this bouquet to be formal or perfectly round, it's quirky unique shape is what will add to it's rustic, woodland feel.

There might even be some dried lotus flower pods, veronica and fern. The stems will look good wrapped in string or hessian burlap.

ROMANTIC

Use large blooms such as large roses, proteas and dahlias. Have a bouquet made up of masses of ranunculus and lots of greenery using one or two anthurium, and don't forget the eucalyptus or any other lovely greenery.

MINIMALIST

Create this look by using just a few stems of your favourite flower.

Use long stems such as callas and carnations.

BEACH / EXOTIC

You can use lots of colour in a beach bouquet to give it that exotic feel. Include large, bright coloured orchids, bird of paradise, sunflowers and large leaves such as castor oil and monstera.

CONTEMPORARY

  • You probably are looking to have a bouquet with sleek lines.

  • Crystal beads and broaches would add to this particular look.

  • Orchids and Calla lilies would be ideal flowers to include in your bouquet.

  • Flowing bouquets of the same flower in one colour.

  • Smaller bouquets with lots of greenery.

PLANNING YOUR BOUQUET FLOWERS WITH YOUR FLORIST

Your florist will have lots of bouquet images for you to browse through, but if you have some ideas of your own then bring some pictures with you.

Be warned florists have the magic touch when it comes to bringing a bouquet to life from an image, but they are not infallible, and they are not magicians.

The bouquet you get will not be the absolute double of the image you have. Even when the flowers and the colour are the same.

Fresh flowers have a mind of their own, and yes we can tame them with tape, wires and glue, but every single flower has it's own characteristics.

Whatever your choice we wish you all the best with your wedding planning.
