BRIDES BOUQUETS WITH ATTITUDE - Part 4 - Grasses

Updated: Jul 27, 2021

Welcome to the fourth helping of 'Brides Bouquets With Attitude'.

This week we're looking at grasses. You might say that there is nothing special about grasses, but I love working with them because used right they have the ability to elevate the look of any bouquet.

USE GRASSES TO ADD INTEREST TO YOUR BOUQUET

We know it's not a new idea, but we are also aware that if you're a bride hoping to have a go at creating your own bouquet, a little friendly advice won't go amiss.

5 GRASSES THAT WILL ADD MAGIC TO ANY BRIDES BOUQUET OR FLORAL ARRANGEMENT

1.

Bear Grass

  • Colour: Olive green

  • Scientifically speaking it's not true grass, but does that really matter?

  • This versatile grass is available all year round.

  • It is long lasting.

  • One bunch of Bear Grass can go a long way.

  • Bear Grass is not expensive.

  • It can be looped and added to bouquets or left to hang naturally.

  • Looks very attractive when looped and used in buttonholes (see image above), and corsages.

  • Can be weaved into intricate designs.

2.

China Grass / T Grass (Lily grass)

  • Colour: Green or variegated (China Grass).

  • Can be used in the same way as Bear Grass.

  • This flat sided grass has a broader blade than bear grass.

  • It's another versatile grass that can be used to loop around bouquets.

  • Works well with all flower colours.

3.

Steel Grass

  • Colour: Dark green.

  • Comes in different lengths.

  • Available all year round.

  • As the name implies, this is a very strong grass.

  • Will probably last up to 2 weeks.

  • Works well in a tropical bouquet.

4.

Flax Leaves

  • Some people may disagree with me, but I believe this is probably one of the most versatile pieces of foliage you can include in your bouquet or floral arrangements.

  • It's not a grass, but can be manipulated to look like grass, by means of shredding.

  • It can be looped.

  • It can be weaved.

  • It can add both beauty and height to an arrangement.

5.

Flexigrass

  • Yes, it is as flexible as its name implies.

  • You can knot it, loop it, plait it, and it won't snap!

  • This grass has a round blade (tubular).

  • Comes in long lengths of up to 3'

Well We've come to the end of this introduction to using grasses in your brides bouquets. We hope that we've inspired you to use some interesting grasses in yours.

PLEASE NOTE: All the above grasses, like flowers, need to be well hydrated in order to maintain a healthy appearance and stay looking good throughout the day.

In an ideal situation once purchased they should be cut at an angle and left in water overnight, preferably in a room which is not brightly lit.
