PLANNING YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS - Choosing The Right Bouquet

Updated: Aug 8, 2020

THE SHAPE OF YOUR BOUQUET

You probably already have a very good idea of the kind of brides bouquet you will be holding as you walk down the aisle on your wedding day, but have you thought about whether the flowers you intend to hold will compliment your overall look.

As I've mentioned before whatever you wear on the day needs to enhance your whole look therefore it would be a good idea for you to consider not just the flower type and the colours but also the shape and size of your bouquet.

Take a look at some of the popular bouquet shapes and find out which one will suit your dress?

1.

THE ROUND BOUQUET

2.

THE HAND-TIED ROUND BOUQUET

Yes the bouquet above is still a round bouquet, it's just been hand-tied, is less compact than the bouquet in the first image. Again this bouquet can be used with any style of wedding dress.

3.

THE POSY BOUQUET

The Posy is a small bouquet which you should be able to easily hold in one hand. Due to it's small size it would be ideal for a flower girl.

DRESS: If you have chosen a Mermaid, Fishtail or Ballgown shaped wedding dress then the posy would be a good choice of bouquet for you to consider using.

4.

THE PAGEANT / ARM SHEAF / PRESENTATION BOUQUET

The pageant bouquet is not held in both hands, it is a bouquet that is held over the arm. If you can imagine yourself walking to the front of the stage, with your flowers resting on one arm after just being crowned as Miss World then you've got it.

DRESS: If you'll be wearing an empire line or a column dress then the pageant bouquet is the one for you.

5.

THE CASCADE BOUQUET

The cascade bouquet is a sight to behold, it shouts out loud and cannot be missed as it cascades in front of the bride.

DRESS: Ballgown and A Line shaped dresses are what you should be wearing with this style of bouquet.

If you're a tall bride this is a good bouquet style to choose.

6.

RUSTIC BOUQUET / BOHO BOUQUET

If you are the bride to be that is looking forward to getting married outside then this is the bouquet for you. Lots of greenery, and no specific shape, sprawling or small with meadow flowers, the choice is yours.

DRESS: I imagine if you are a Boho bride that you will not be choosing a wedding dress that could be described as too formal.

If it's long, free flowing, laid back, lacy and pretty then you've got the look.

NOTE TO THE BRIDE TO BE: The advice we give here should be treated purely as guidelines. As the bride we believe you should follow your dreams and be you!
